Often overlooked by its larger neighbors, Annapolis is a gem worth exploring. Perfect for a day of solo travel, bonding with your partner, or hanging with family or friends, there is plenty to discover and enjoy. To get the most out of your day, we suggest visiting the William Paca House, shopping on Main Street, and seeing the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Memorial. Before heading home, we recommend getting a beer flight at Forward Brewing or a tasting at Great Frogs Winery…or trying both of them! Since you aren’t driving, you can enjoy yourself without worrying!

Alexandria, VA

Time: 1 hour

Not to be confused with the ancient city in Egypt, our Alexandria of the USA provides a surplus of historical landmarks. We recommend starting off at the tavern! Wait, what? You heard us! The Gadsby Tavern opened in 1785 and was frequented by historical figures of our country; just imagine the conversations they had. While it is a museum now, it is most definitely worth starting the day. Other fun sites include the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum, the Alexandria Farmers Market, and the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. Plus, make sure to save an hour or two to stroll down King Street Mile for local shopping, picture taking, and a quick coffee break!

Time: 1 hour and 20 minutes

As the capital of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg is rich in local and national history, in addition to art, food, and other terrific attractions. When taking a day trip to Harrisburg, we suggest you start with the past by visiting the National Civil War Museum, the Pennsylvania State Capital, and the National Fire Museum. Afterward, head to the oldest continuously operating farmers’ market, Broad Street Market, for shopping and lunch. At the end of the day, especially if you are traveling as a couple, we suggest taking the famous riverboat cruise on the Susquehanna River.

Philadelphia, PA
