How to Stay Cool and Stylish In Summer

We all love the summer style that comes along with the warmer weather, but as the temperature climbs even higher, we need to find fashionable ways to dress that continue to keep us cool. There’s nothing worse than putting a beautiful outfit together, then feeling uncomfortable in the heat. To help you avoid these situations, we have put together a list of tips on how to stay cool and stylish in the summer.

1. Wear Textured Fabrics

In the summer, you should try to reach for breathable fabrics with texture, such as linen, seersucker, and cotton. Anything clingy and synthetic, like polyester, will prevent any air movement and trap all the heat. Make sure you double-check the lining in your dresses and blazers for any polyester.

2. Choose Loose Fitting Garments

To continue the breathability of your outfits, opt for clothing that is looser and more flowy. For example, if you’re a fan of designer jeans and denim, try shorts that offer a little more wriggle room, like a boyfriend fit. If you prefer skirts and dresses, where fits with movement and circulation.

3. Avoid Hats, Unless They’re Made Of Straw

It is proven that you lose the most heat through your head, so avoid trapping heat with hats. The only exception here are straw hats because they allow the heat to dissipate whilst shielding your scalp from the sun. Try to stay away from anything other than straw hats to keep yourself cool.

4. Wear Lighter Colours

It is no secret that darker colours like black and navy absorb more heat, so you should aim to stick with lighter colours. Paler colours reflect light, which can help you to keep cool, so choose colours such as white and pastel shades to avoid attracting the sun.

5. Opt For Sleeves

It might seem counterintuitive to wear sleeves in the sun, and you may be tempted to have your arms bare, but direct sunlight can make you warmer. You would be better off by choosing clothes with flowy sleeves, rather than a sleeveless option. Plus, you will get a little extra sun protection to prevent any burning.

6. Carry A Smaller Bag

Large handbags or totes really aren’t very practical for the summer, so consider switching your bag for something smaller. We recommend trying a small crossbody bag to keep your arms and hands free, or a trendy straw bag to stay cooler. Much like your clothing, you should also try to use a bag in a lighter shade to avoid absorbing too much heat.

7. Keep Your Hair Off Your Neck

Switching up your hair styles from summer can be a lot of fun. You should try to keep your hair off your neck to let your skin breathe, so you can experiment with braids, buns, and ponytails to find what looks best. You can even try out new accessories, like hair scarves or slides, to keep your hair up. If you’re ready for a big change, you could also consider cutting off some length to stay cooler.

By following these tips, you will find it easy to put together incredible outfits that look fantastic, offer breathability, and help you to feel confident in the summer months.
