What To Wear To A Summer Wedding

Summer weddings call for pretty pastels, fun florals, bold prints, and vibrant hues.

They allow guests to have a lot of fun with their outfits, so as long as you steer clear of white (for obvious reasons) and keep things on the fairly conservative side (weddings are considered to be family events, after all) then there is a practically endless supply of wedding guest outfits to choose from.

(Tip: Comfortable shapewear to walk down the aisle in can make the event much more enjoyable!)

Here are just a few of our favorites…

Floral dresses

It’s no secret that we associate the spring/summer season with florals. Floral dresses couldn’t be more perfect for a summer wedding, and will provide you with a fresh yet romantic look every single time.

We love this Warehouse dress, as the full skirt is super-flattering and will therefore complement all figures. Plus, thanks to the various bright colors, you can have your pick of matching accessories! (We would go for bright pink shoes and a pink fascinator to really bring out the fuchsia tones in the dress.)

Maxi dresses

We always reach for maxi dresses in the summer – and summer weddings are no exception! As well as keeping the heat at bay, the added bonus of wearing a maxi dress is that your shoes will most likely be hidden, so you can get away with wearing flats all day long!

Wear some embellished flats if your shoes can still be seen, as there is still no shame in opting for comfort on a hot summer’s day. Flats are a necessity for beach weddings, which is yet another plus point to destination weddings. Just be sure to wear your dress with your shoes before the big day, in case it needs to be altered. The last thing you want is to trip up in front of hundreds of people!

Pretty pastels

There is something very enchanting about pastel hues, so wearing them to a romantic occasion such as a wedding is always a great idea. Pastels will never go out of style – especially as far as wedding guest dresses are concerned – which means you can afford to splash out on a dress that can be worn again and again.

Another beauty of pastels is that they are subtle and versatile enough to go with different colors, so you can mix and match accessories to create new outfits for different weddings. Genius!

Midi skirts and midi dresses

Weddings call for fairly modest outfits, which is why you can’t go wrong with a midi dress. A midi dress in a bright color would be perfect for a summer wedding, and you can go as wild with the print as you dare.

If you want the outfit to do all the hard work for you, we suggest going for an intricate design that requires minimal accessories, such as this stunning Ted Baker skirt. Pair with a simple white cami and some delicate white or nude shoes, and you’re good to go!

Chic co-ords

Co-ords have never been bigger, and there are hundreds of chic, wedding-appropriate sets to choose from right now. A summer wedding is the perfect occasion to wear a bright, crisp pair of shorts with a matching blazer. Just team with a white shirt or cami and you have an on-trend summer wedding outfit in an instant. Ditch the blazer when you want to hit the dance floor!

Bright and bold colors

If you can’t wear your brightest dress at a summer wedding, when can you? There is no shortage of intense, bold dresses out there, so it’s easy to be overwhelmed with options. If you can’t decide on a bright dress, then go for neon accessories instead.

We love the idea of wearing a dress in a muted color and making the outfit pop with some fluorescent heels and an equally bright clutch bag.

Trendy trousers

Whoever said women shouldn’t wear trousers to a summer wedding clearly didn’t know where to look. Nothing is more summer-wedding-appropriate than a cute pair of floral printed flared trousers, teamed with a smart, delicate silk cami and sky scraping heels.
