Things to do before you Move

Moving to Orlando Florida? Here are some things that you need to do first; make repairs and replacements, remove things you installed yourself, like bookshelves, uninstall your appliances, clean out your kitchen and bathroom, counters, floors, the carpet, and such.

But that is just part of it. It always seems like there are a million things you need to do before you move out of the house. And at the same time, you just can’t seem to figure out what exactly needs to be done prior. Here are some things you need to take care of first, that will ease the stress;

Create a Moving Checklist

The very first thing to do when you start thinking about moving out is creating a moving checklist. And yes, as soon as the thought of moving crosses your mind,, the first step is to create a checklist. This is important to ensure you don’t forget things and that you stick to a schedule that will make it easy and smooth.

The trick about creating a checklist is not in just writing down a to do list. You want to sit and plan a schedule; that is. Make sure you indicate the exact date and time you should be doing something. Be as specific as you can be. If you are winging in your schedule, you are as well better off not creating one at all.

Set Up Your Moving Budget

The next important thing is to set up your moving budget. Some people say it is best to set up your budget after consulting a moving company. Others swear by setting up a budget before you begin the process. Whatever works for you, you want to know approximately how much money moving will cost you.

You also need to determine if you can afford it. Keep in mind that there are a lot of contributing factors that determine the amount of money you will spend. This includes the number of belongings you have, the type of moving companies you hire, the number of services you request for, the moving distance, and more. If you’re moving from a distant area, it’s certainly recommended to work with a cross country moving company to finalize your move.

Declutter

Decluttering is lifesaving if done right and done early. You want to know the things you want to take with you when you move. And there are different parts you need to declutter including your kitchen, living room, closet, and just about any other room in your current house.

Once you declutter, you will be able to get rid of waste and decide what you want to do with the rest of the stuff you have put aside. It gives you ample time during the rest of the process including when packing and unpacking, the amount of packing materials you need, and generally saves you some time and money.

Make the Calls, Send the Emails, and Set up the Meetings

Before you move, make sure to make the calls you need to, send the emails, and attend some scheduled meetings. While you are the one moving you need to understand that the process will not only affect you. It will affect your kids at school, as well as your work and office.

You may need to set up a meeting to ask for a transfer closer to your next home, talk to your kids’ teachers to decide the best foot forward for your kids, and inform your family and friends, and inform whoever needs to know. Last minute hustles are not the most pleasant, especially when you are moving.

Decide on your Moving Means

You also need to decide what means you need when moving. This will depend on a lot of factors, especially the distance in which you are moving. Are you going to move by air, road, or ship via the ocean? Moving from one country to another will require a different means from moving from one street to the next.

Put your options on the table, decide on your budget, determine your requirements, and pick a means that is most convenient for your specific needs.
