Taking Your Relationship to the Next Level: 5 Telltale Signs It’s Time to Move In Together

According to one census, about 15 million Americans live together before they’re married, and that number is growing and growing.

If you’ve been in a steady relationship for a while now, you might be wondering if it’s time for you both to move in together.

While it’s a big commitment, you might be wondering when is the right time to move in? Thankfully we’ll break down a few signs that might mean it’s time.

1. You’ve Already Lived Together

One major sign that you’re ready to commit to each other is if you’ve already lived together. As your relationship goes on, you might find that you’re spending more and more time at each other’s places to the point where you’re practically living together.

If this is the case, you should ask yourself if you enjoy doing that? Do you want more time to spend together?

2. You’re Familiar With Each Other’s Habits

While you might not know most of their habits until you live with them, you should have a pretty good idea of them.

Find out what their small, odd habits are. If you’re okay with them, you can probably move in. However, if their habits drive you up the wall, you will have a much more difficult time getting used to living with them.

That’s why it’s important to make sure that your habits are compatible because, over time, they likely won’t change.

3. You’ve Both Understood It Won’t Be Easy

Moving in together sounds great at first, but you both have to understand that it’s not going to be a fantasy dream forever.

Make sure that you’re both on the same page about your reasons for moving in and that you’re both committed to making the situation work.

4. You’ve Talked About Your Budget

Talk about how much you both make and how you’re going to split the rent, utilities, and other bills that come up. How are you both going to pay them?

You should be comfortable talking about financials before you sign a lease for a place together.

5. You’re Both Able to Solve Problems Together

Whether it be talking about hiring movers, where to arrange furniture, when guests can come down, or any issues that arise, make sure that you have an open channel of communication to work through any problems. If you can do that, you’ll have a good start.

For example, if you move into a new place and the air conditioning breaks, what would you both do? Would you work together to find a solution? Or complain and argue with each other and not get anything done?
