Reasons to Take CBD Oil
CBD oil has caused a stir in mainstream media over the past few years, and for good reason. However, you would be forgiven for not understanding how it came about or many of the reasons why people have opted to start taking CBD oil.
CBD oil is short for cannabidiol oil, and cannabidiol is a derivative from the cannabis plant. Despite this, CBD oil does not get you ‘high’, which is often associated with cannabis, and according to recent research, CBD can offer us numerous amounts of health benefits.
This piece will look at some of the reasons others take CBD oil and why you might want to give it a try yourself!
What is CBD Oil?
Just so there is no confusion or misunderstanding, let’s start with the basics. What exactly is CBD oil? CBD oil is an oil that has been mixed with the cannabidiol extract from the cannabis Sativa strain of the plant. There are several strains, and while cannabis Sativa is a strain that contains tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) naturally, also known as the psychoactive compound of cannabis which creates the ‘high’ feeling, the Sativa strain is often bread to have a negligible amount of THC compound in order to use CBD for its therapeutic effect on a wide variety of different conditions.
Oil is the most common way of administering the CBD compound, but it can be found in other products such as confectionery, drinks, lotions, and other topical products.
CBD and Anxiety
Stress and anxiety are a part of our daily lives, and once upon a time were a vital part of our survival. While that is still true, it is often the case that our stress and anxiety levels far outweigh the dangerous and life-threatening situations we find ourselves in, which can lead us to burnout and emotional exhaustion.
Taking CBD oil can help with stress and anxiety, as the cannabidiol compound attaches itself to receptors. These receptors are all over the body, but notably in the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The body interacts with these receptors, which, in turn, help the body to calm down and find some equilibrium.
CBD and Epilepsy
Cannabis in relation to epilepsy has made quite the impression over the past few years, and despite it being an ancient treatment, it is now re-hailed as a wonder drug in terms of offering outstanding treatment for those who suffer from seizures. That being said, cannabis is not legal in all states or countries and can have negative effects on young children, which is where CBD comes in as a decent substitute. There is significant evidence to suggest that CBD is a fantastic way to treat at least one form of epilepsy. Promising findings could very well mean that we find more and more studies continuing to pop up to support this plant’s progress in combating epilepsy.
CBD and Pain Management
Pain is something that almost all of us will have to deal with at some point. Whether it’s a mild headache right down to a chronic pain disease, it is often an unwelcome experience. Over the counter or prescribed medication is often suggested to be used as a treatment. The downside is that depending on the severity of the pain, sometimes regular painkillers do not even scratch the surface in tackling the problem, and prescribed painkillers can be addictive and cause other unpleasant side effects in the long run.
CBD is a brilliantly safe alternative for those looking to either manage their pain more naturally or use something alongside the painkillers that are already being used without causing more harm. While much more research is needed, the studies that have been conducted have been shown to be extremely positive when equating the use of CBD oil with diminishing pain from various disorders such as arthritis, period pain, and cancer.
CBD and Heart Health
Your heart is extremely important and needs to be kept in good shape. When we have heart issues such as blood pressure problems, we are at an increased risk for medical issues such as strokes, heart attacks, and metabolic issues. CBD has been found to be helpful in lowering high blood pressure, helping the body regulate itself. That being said – it is the belief that this is intertwined with helping anxiety and stress levels, which are notorious for causing blood pressure issues. There is much more research needed to be positively conclusive about the benefits CBD oil has on medical ailments, but many people swear by it, and research has so far been very positive!
