Metal Roofing vs. Shingle Roofing
If you need a new roof, you’re probably considering a roof that will fit you best. Occasionally, deciding on your roofing material can be quite overwhelming given the many options available.
Fortunately, not every building has the same needs. This gives you the opportunity to look at a few different options regarding which roofing material will suit your needs.
That being said, we want to help you understand the advantages of a metal roof vs. a shingle roof.
What are the differences?
- Metal roofing can be a difficult installation process and will require a bit more technical experience before trying it. In the case that you are doing the roof installation yourself, it will be important to consider this.
- Lightweight – One of the best things about metal roofs is that they are quite light compared to their asphalt counterparts. This means that there will be less stress applied from the roof to the rest of your building’s structure.
- Lifespan – The most significant difference between metal and asphalt roofing is the lifespan. Metal roofing will last significantly longer than an asphalt roof. So while the initial investment may be more expensive, it can be a better choice financially depending on your situation.
- Weather resistance – Compared to other materials like wood, metal, plastic, or glass, metal is by far the most durable in all different types of weather conditions. When done properly, a metal roof should be able to withstand every type of mild and heavy weather.
- Recyclability – The far more environmentally friendly option will be metal roofing. Asphalt shingles are difficult to dispose of in a good way. However, metal roofing panels can be recycled and used in a number of ways.
