How to Be a Champion of Vaping Etiquette
No matter how keen you are on vaping, it’s important to understand that not everyone in your social circle is going to share your enthusiasm. While some of your friends and family members are liable to be perfectly fine with vaping, others may request that you abstain from pulling out your vape pen in their presence. Luckily, practicing proper vape etiquette isn’t nearly as difficult as some people make it look. As you’ll find, a little bit of mindfulness and common courtesy can go a long way towards making you a vape etiquette champ.
Don’t Vape in Public
Since vaping is prohibited in the vast majority of public spaces, you’d do well to abstain from pulling out your vape pen in public. Doing so is liable to create trouble for yourself, but anyone you happen to be with, as well. Frankly, embarrassing yourself is bad enough without dragging friends or family members into an issue that you created. Vaping in stores, restaurants and other public places is practically guaranteed to draw the ire of the people who work at these businesses, as well as other patrons. This is liable to result in you being asked to leave, outright banned or being saddled with a hefty fine. Worse yet, the people with you may have these consequences imposed upon them, too.
Don’t Vape at Meals
When dining alone, you may enjoy having a good puff at the dinner table. However, when you’re at a restaurant or someone else’s home – or are hosting people for dinner – you’ll need to abstain from vaping at the table. Not only does this constitute poor manners, it illustrates a clear lack of consideration for the people around you. While vaping may be part of your regular dining experience, there’s a good chance it isn’t part of theirs.
Don’t Engage in Stealth Vaping
“Stealth vaping” refers to the practice of vaping in a secretive manner. More often than not, stealth vaping is practiced in places and settings where vaping is prohibited. Needless to say, this is a bad idea for a number of reasons. For starters, if you’re caught, you may be asked to leave the residence or business you’re visiting, thereby embarrassing yourself and anyone with you. In fact, stealth vaping in a business setting may even result in the loss of your job.
Secondly, engaging in stealth vaping may cause friends, family members and various acquaintances to lose respect for you. Even if they abstain from saying anything, this doesn’t mean your behavior has gone unnoticed.
Don’t Vape in Someone Else’s Home without Permission
When visiting the home of a friend or family member, it’s entirely possible that you’ll feel the urge to have a puff. However, before proceeding to take out your vape pen, make a point of asking for permission. Regardless of how well you know this person or how close you are with them, vaping in their home without permission is a clear sign of disrespect. Even if this individual has never voiced any objections to you vaping in other locations, this should not be taken as a green light to vape in their home. Additionally, even if you’re given the go-ahead once, you should continue asking for permission each subsequent time you wish to vape.
If the person in question is unclear about any detail of your vaping rituals, take the time to provide them with a clear explanation. For example, if they ask, “What is an atomizer?,” take care to explain in no uncertain terms.
Don’t Get Angry if Asked to Stop
If you’re vaping in the presence of someone who doesn’t wish to be exposed to your vapor clouds, don’t fly off the handle if they request that you stop. There are many good reasons for which they might object to being vaped in front of, so no matter how frustrated being asked to stop makes you, take the high road and comply.
Failure to practice proper vaping etiquette is liable to land you in hot water with friends, family members, coworkers and even random strangers. While you may not think twice about embracing certain vaping habits, others may have no choice but to take notice of them and/or be affected by them. Even when no offense is intended, the behaviors you display while vaping can land you on the wrong side of the people around you. In the interest of avoiding this, take care to embrace the etiquette tips discussed above.
