Hold on people’s attention with fascinating Kanjeevaram sarees

Kanjeevaram sarees are highly distinctive from other types of traditional sarees. Silk is an extremely expensive fabric that is rarely used in everyday wear. Nobody can dispute the appeal of silk.

Kanjivaram silk saree is more of an investment than an outlay of money. Get empowered by the magnificent ensemble and have the glam to walk the street like it’s the red carpet!

KANJEEVARAM SAREES -THE ORIGIN

Saint Markanda, revered as the chief weaver of the Gods, is linked to the creation of this saree. He had tissues made of lotus fibre. Kanchis, descended from the sage Markanda, are the primary weavers of kanjeevaram Silk.

According to another piece of historical information, the renowned Chola dynasty ruler Krishna-Deva Raya ruled kanjeevaram from 985 to 1015. The two renowned weaving communities, the Devangas and the Saligars arrived in Kanchipuram due to his aggressive initiative in the silk trade. Due to the French invasion in the 17th century, this trade was momentarily suspended.

The intricate pattern and design of Kanjeevaram sarees had Indian women swooning over it.

The saree is renowned as the queen of all sarees because of its distinctive texture, sparkle, permanency, and fineness. Due to its fineness and weight, the material, thick Kanchipuram silk, is deemed pricey. The saree’s weight either defines or serves as a major criterion for its quality. Better sarees are those that are heavier.

Kanjivaram silk sarees are patterned with temple designs. Over time, 6 yards of gold zari weaving were added to Kanjivaram silk sarees. They were quite expensive, as said earlier. Artificial zaris that resemble the real zari are utilised to craft low-range budget-friendly variants. This saree’s speciality is its availability in various colours, which gives it a shimmering and sophisticated appearance.

How is this Ethereal Kanjeevaram Weave made?

Each of these exquisite silks is woven by professional weavers in Kanchipuram using pure mulberry silk. The yarns are sun-dried after being initially submerged in rice water. The yarn becomes thicker and stiffer due to this process, giving it strength and texture. The technique starts when the thread is interlocked with a thin silver wire/zari yarn and a gold thread/zari.

The resulting fabric is incredibly robust and durable, especially when the metallic yarn is used liberally. However, if threads made of genuine silver, gold (yep, that’s still done), or gold-plated copper are used, the saree might become rather pricey and weigh up to 2 kilograms!

Synthetic zari is also often used, lowering the weight and the price. Cotton or synthetic yarns are typically used in both Cotton Kanchi and Kora sarees. These Kanjeevaram weave replicas are more affordable yet still very sturdy and durable.
