3 Ways to Dress with 2 Style Identities

Having 2 style identities is more common than you’d think. After all, it really means needing to express two distinct aesthetics as a reflection of an interesting personality! Still, it can be tricky to express yourself this way, but of course, it certainly isn’t impossible.

How? Here are 3 tips for you.

Really Define Your Style Identities

The very first thing you want to do is really understand your style identities if you’re going to blend them. Having a clear understanding of what you like and want is the foundation of great self-expression so that when you label your styles clearly, you pick out outfits that match your personality and how you want it to be perceived.

Think about what makes your style identity your style identity. Is it color? Nostalgia? Aspiration? It’s a good idea to know what to call each style, especially now that it’s a lot easier with so many names to choose from – romantic, tomboy, minimalist, classic, hype beast, etc. This is how you give yourself clear lines within which to play.

How do you hone in on your style identities? One of the easiest ways? Start a visual board. Make a board with pictures of outfits and colors in your styles; go digital on Pinterest or old-school with a physical board. Then, you want to highlight what keeps popping up. For example, a romantic style means plenty of soft, flowing fabrics, pastel colors, and delicate details like lace or ruffles.

Capsule Wardrobe Approach

There’s a reason why putting together an outfit could take hours and hours. Sometimes this really is unavoidable, but most times you can absolutely streamline the process.

For example, separate mini collections for each style -wardrobe capsules- make for an easier time getting dressed. You don’t want getting dressed to be a complicated thing every single day.

Curating a capsule wardrobe is pretty simple. You want to pick out key pieces for each style, such as flowy dresses for romantic and neon tops for pop. Then, it’s a good idea to color-coordinate mini-collections here, mixing basics with more standout pieces.

Rotation System

Things are a lot simpler with a rotation system; it’s not as challenging to be cohesive and focusing on one style at a time during specific times lets you try out and fully enjoy all kinds of looks.

Categorize your styles. Maybe your romantic style clothes go in a “wedding season, vacation, and tea time pile” while your classic style clothes go in a “corporate job at a communications firm pile.” It’s up to you!

Then, commit to sticking to your rotation system.

Fashion and style are a way to express yourself and with the right guidelines, there’s no reason why you must pick just the one style identity. Try out these tips.
