How to Style Your Clothing in a Way That Stands Out

Do you ever look at your full closet and feel like you still have nothing to wear? That may be due, in part, to how you style your clothes. If you regularly wear the same styles, combos, and outfits, your mind may subconsciously push you to switch things up.

So, how exactly do you style your wardrobe? Is it as simple as throwing on a silver necklace or a brooch and calling it a day? Or should you be more intentional with your style? To learn more about how to style your outfits, here’s what you need to know.

Don’t be afraid of jewelry.

The right jewelry can make or break an entire outfit. Something that seems plain as a sterling silver bracelet or a diamond necklace can take your outfit from cute to drop-dead gorgeous. Plus, you can use nearly infinite combinations of clothing and jewelry to make unlimited outfit pairings.

The same necklace may help you feel sexy and alluring on a date and then empowered when you walk into work the next day. You can pair your favorite bracelet or pendant necklace with a dress one day and then try it out with jeans, a loose-fitting blouse, and flats the next.

You can even invest in statement jewelry. On its own, a little black dress may look like it’s missing a certain something. But, when you pair it with a pearl necklace, you have an outfit that’s ready for your next gala, fundraiser, or cocktail hour. Whether you’re wearing pendants, gemstone necklaces, or other jewels, don’t be afraid to add some bling to your existing outfits. It can help you style your clothing in new and exciting ways.

Incorporate other accessories, too.

While everyone loves jewels and pendants, they aren’t the only accessories you can use to style your outfits. Outside of jewelry, you also have to consider your bag, shoes, and even your glasses. Your glasses frames can completely shift a look. For example, when you wear a rectangular pair of frames with your best business attire, you look like you’re ready to meet with the CEO. Swap those out for some aviator sunglasses, and you’re ready to hit a rooftop cocktail lounge after work.

As far as shoes are concerned, it would help if you always weighed both style and functionality. For example, even the cutest pair of Louboutins isn’t worth it if they start killing your feet after five minutes. On the other hand, if you’re going to be on your feet most of the day, but you’d still like to wear something with a heel, consider a pump or a wedge.

Otherwise, pick some sensible flats that can go with slacks for a while you’re in the office and a pair of shorts for when you’re done for the day. Many shoes are seasonal, too, so it’s always good to check your favorite retailer’s best sellers and new arrivals for some helpful style ideas.

Play with colors and patterns.

Even if you don’t love a problem pattern, there are still ways to incorporate different patterns, textures, and colors into your everyday style. Take a second look at that blouse and skirt combo that you said could never work. Pair clashing prints to make a major style impact. Take that loud, gaudy top out of the back of your closet and find a way to give it a second life. When you start experimenting with your style, you never know what might happen.

While it’s easy to think we’ve hit fashion dead ends, sometimes it’s all about how we’re styling the pieces we already have. So whether you’re looking for a way to use your favorite whimsical necklace or you’re going to try out some conflicting patterns, there are always ways to try and pair your clothes to create new, stylish combos.
