5 Top Tips For Your Best Lockdown Lashes

While we know there are much more important things going on in the world right now, we still need to practice self-care and for so many of us, that includes staying fabulous and maintaining our best beauty regimes.

Unfortunately, whether you’re a lover of strip lashes, addicted to lash extensions or prefer to keep things more natural with an eyelash tint, it’s proving tricky to look after our lashes during lockdown.

Your beauty salon may not be open yet, or perhaps you simply don’t feel ready yet to have a treatment, we’re here to bring you the top tips for looking after your lashes in lockdown to maintain their beauty and leave your lashes looking even better than before.

Remove Remnants

We all try to hold onto our eyelash extensions as long as possible, not only do we financially invest in them, but they also can be time consuming. Depending on your artist, each appointment can take between 2-4 hours.

But let’s face it, no matter how well we look after our lash extensions, they will inevitably begin to fall out and begin to look rather messy. Not only does this look bad, but it can also be causing damage to your natural lashes.

It is generally recommended to only have an expert lash artist remove these last lashes, but these are extenuating circumstances so it’s important to know how to do this as safely as possible yourself until you can get back to the salon.

Take a little castor or coconut oil and rub onto a clean mascara brush and gently tease the oil into your lashes. Do this before bed and overnight the oil will dissolve the glue. In the morning, you should be able to gently remove your lash extensions without damage to your natural lashes.

Keep On Cleaning

Lash mites, dust, makeup and grime can all build up on your lashes and if you want to keep them in their best shape, you should clean them every day, in the morning and at night.

Remove all your makeup with a gentle remover, avoid makeup wipes as these can put too much pressure on the roots and can even upset the delicate skin around your eyes.

Use a foaming cleanser and gently work this into your lashes, rinse away and pat dry with a clean towel. Avoid using cotton buds or pads as these can leave debris.

You can also use a clean eyelash brush to carefully tease between each lash to encourage a more natural curl when they have dried.

Invest In The Right Serum

You may have heard of lash serum but here is why it can make such a difference and what types to avoid. Your natural lashes have a growth cycle, but this cycle varies between each lash.

This means while some of your lashes are their longest and fullest, others are just starting to show. This means there can be some inconsistencies and gaps in your lashes with some serums and your lashes will be encouraged to grow and fall out all at the same time.

This usually happens with hormone infused serums, they look great at first but can actually leave your lashes worse than before. They also cause problems when you stop using the serum completely.

Using a serum with no hormones will help to stimulate hair growth and won’t cause any negative effect if you do stop using it.

You will see results in 2-3 weeks, as so many of us are taking this time to have a break from using makeup, your lashes will look so good, you may not consider mascara ever again! You can even use this serum on your eyebrows if you’ve been coveting thicker arches.

Use Keratin

Our eyelashes are made up from 95% keratin which is a form of protein that helps with their strength and protects from stress and damage.

If you are a frequent wearer of strip lashes or lash extensions, this means your natural lashes are exposed to a lot more weight than nature intended and will become damaged over time.

Using a keratin based conditioner will help strengthen those lashes and boosts the keratin in the natural lash. Even if you don’t wear lashes and opt for the natural look, you can still benefit from some extra keratin.

Users report up to 45% thicker natural lashes with the use of these products, so what’s not to love?

Change Your Mascara

Mascara is the next best thing to make your lashes look long, thick and luscious and it’s the really quick way of enhancing our natural beauty.

With so much video calling happening now, it’s a great way to look great with minimal effort, no one wants to do a full face of makeup for a ten minute call!

While your mascara may give you the impact you want in the short-term, what is it doing to your lashes long-term?

Most mascaras focus on long length and thick fans and this is achieved by the product stiffening and sticking to your lashes, you wouldn’t use a product everyday that does this to your hair, so why do it to your lashes?

Hydrating mascaras can be a lifesaver and we promise you won’t regret it. These have a lighter formula and are infusing with conditioning ingredients that will give you follicles the love they deserve.

By following each tip, not only will you look your best during lockdown, but in most cases, your lashes will look better than they have ever done. Who knows, you may ditch the falsies for good after you realise you can achieve a very similar look with your own lashes!
