Things to Do In Hertfordshire This Christmas
The home counties make an excellent place to spend a spare weekend. But if you’re looking for festive fun, it’s difficult to beat Hertfordshire. Let’s take a look at some of the hidden gems you’ll find around the county this Christmas season.
Winter Walks
Hertfordshire is home to some gorgeous walks through some of the country’s best-kept countryside. It’s green and pleasant for most of the year, but if you’re lucky, you might get the opportunity to walk through a landscape that’s covered in fresh snow. Just be sure that you’re wearing the right footwear, and that you’re wearing breathable clothing!
Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead
If you’re looking to experience an indoor ski slope, then this is the closest real snow slope you’ll get to London. There are skiing and snowboarding lessons for all ages as well as a licenced bar. It’s a great way to prepare if you’re going away skiing in the New Year, but it’s also a great way to get in the mood for the snowy season, even if there isn’t much snow around outside.
Hogwarts in the Snow
Among the county’s biggest tourist draws is the Harry Potter Studio Tour. And the wizarding world is even more spellbinding during the festive season, when the iconic Great Hall is lined with Christmas trees, baubles and Christmas puddings surrounded in real flames. Fans of the series might recall the Yule Ball sequence from Goblet of Fire, and it’s all recreated here. A must-visit for Harry Potter fans of all ages!
Del Boy’s Christmas Comedy Dinner Show
Fans of Only Fools and Horses, on the other hand, might want to consider a trip to Stevenage later in the month for this Trotter-themed Christmas knees-up. There’s a Christmas dinner with all of the trimmings thrown in, and chocolate profiteroles to finish. All of your favourite characters from the show will be represented, making this a perfect way to build up to the big day itself (which is the following weekend).
Hitchin Christmas Parade
On the 7th December, just before midday, the Hitchin Christmas Parade will be on the march through the town square. The showband will be leading the way, and getting everyone in the mood to have a good time! Travelling to Hitchin from Stevenage is a simple matter of hopping on the right train, making this an easy attraction to make time for.
