3 Ways To Adjust Your Windows Based On The Weather

The weather outside of your home can have a big impact on how comfortable you’re able to stay inside your home, especially when it comes to your windows. If you want your home to be able to stay warm in cold weather, you want to make sure that your windows are properly insulated from the cold. And if it’s hot outside, you need to keep that heat out, too.

Luckily, you can accomplish both of these things with many of the same fixtures. To help you learn how this can be done, here are three ways to adjust your windows based on the weather.

Make Your Window More Efficient

One of the first things that you’ll want to change about your windows is how efficient they are.

If you have old or thin windows, your windows likely aren’t working very efficiently for you. You’re likely losing a lot of the heat or cool that you’re trying to keep within your home.

To make your windows more efficient, you can replace them with newer windows. But until you’re ready for this step, you can also try things like putting sunscreens on your windows to help block out the sun in hot climates. This can help particularly in places where the sun is strong and you don’t want the rays to penetrate into your home too much and heat things up while also wanting to get some sunlight during the day.

Use The Right Window Coverings

Window coverings can be another great way to adjust your windows based on the weather.

In cold winter weather, you may want to have thick window coverings like drapes to help block out the cold air from coming in from your windows. This can help to keep your home warmer. And in the summer, you can use blackout curtains to keep your room nice and dark if you’re wanting to go to sleep while the sun is still out.

Apply Weather Stripping

If you’ve noticed that your home is losing a lot of heat from your windows but you don’t have it in your schedule or budget to replace the windows completely yet, one stop-gap that you can try is to apply weather stripping around the windows.

With weather stripping, you use a piece of flexible plastic to better seal around your windows. When properly applied, you can have a lot of less air coming in from the windows of your home. You can even use weather stripping around your doors if they aren’t sealed as well as you’d like, too.

If you want your windows to help you in your efforts to keep your home at a comfortable temperature, consider implementing some of the tips mentioned above.
