4 Ways Your Business Can Be More Eco-Friendly

If you own a small business, you may think your carbon footprint is not bad enough for you to worry about you and your employees’ bad habits. However, according to a survey, 57 percent of shoppers have said climate change had somewhat or fully caused them to reassess their shopping habits. The biggest ever survey on climate change, for the UN Development Programme, found two-thirds saying it is a “global emergency”. So how can you as a business be more eco-friendly? We’ve put together 4 ways to help you.

Offer benefits

From remote working to schemes pushing employees to use public transport, offering some benefits around sustainability can make a big difference. For example, working from home has been proven not only to reduce stress and reduce people’s time spent commuting, it’s also great for the environment. Less cars on the road means less CO2 being emitted. In addition, you could offer a rebate on public transport costs for your employees or a voucher for a bicycle shop.

Use green products

Businesses can have the tendency to always go for the cheapest option. However, it may be a good idea to invest in sustainable products. For example, printer paper, rolls of toilet paper, cleaning products, computer equipment, there are many green alternatives that you could choose from, and you would be surprised that it’s actually not that expensive either. It could also be a good idea to look into recycled products.

Reuse and recycle

Recycling is important and should become a priority for every business. Richard Curtin, SVP of Technology at OKdo commented that “at Okdo, we are taking steps to promote electronic waste recycling and reduce our environmental impact. One of our initiatives is the Raspberry Pi recycling scheme, OKdo Renew, in partnership with Raspberry Pi and the Sony Technology centre. By offering this service, which provides a £10 voucher for every recycled Raspberry Pi board, we’re hoping to encourage the public to think of ways technology can impact the environment and give them incentives to recycle and give their old tech a new life.”

Create a green space

It could be a great idea to create a green corner/room in the heart of your workplace. By doing so, you could integrate some house plants, not only are they good for stress and anxiety, they also purify the air we breathe by removing nasty chemicals such as formaldehyde and benzene. Having a green space shows your employees and your clients that you care about the environment and want to set an example.
